Coaching for Nonprofit Boards, Executive Directors/CEOs & Other Senior Leaders

There are times in your life as a nonprofit leader when you need someone to hear you, provide you with an outside perspective, or offer a confidential place to explore a gnarly issue.

Being a senior paid leader in a nonprofit can be a lonely place. I know this because I was an executive director of a mid-sized nonprofit in Edmonton, Alberta for almost 8 years.

My name is Paula MacLean. I have spent my entire career in human services in Canada. Over the past few decades, I’ve been honoured to coach, support and problem solve with more than 300 senior managers of all sizes and types of nonprofit organizations, from coast to coast to coast in Canada.

I’m sure we share this experience … Sometimes there was just no one to talk to about the challenges (or brick walls) that I was encountering! I couldn’t talk with board members about perplexing HR or operational issues. I couldn’t talk with the managers who reported to me about frustrations with my board. I couldn’t even talk with colleague EDs in my community without feeling like I was breaking ranks or violating confidentiality.

But, more than once I really needed some advice, an outside perspective and expert coaching that took me beyond the chatter rattling around inside my own head.

I am honored to be able to listen, coach and occasionally offer advice to senior nonprofit managers. It is one of the most important and rewarding parts of my day – to ask questions, listen as all the thoughts tumble out, scratch our heads together and puzzle our way to create practical strategies to solve some of the gnarliest issues of your working life.

My approach to coaching is always flexible to meet your unique situation and challenges. This may be:

  • a one-time call to get you “over the hump” on a tough issue;
  • a short-term solution-focused series of calls on one or more challenges;
  • a pre-scheduled series of call (once a month is most common) to help develop your skills and grow your confidence as a leader;
  • Group coaching with a team of leaders who work together.

A complementary 30-minute exploration call with me personally is just a click away.

Reach out to me by clicking the box below and send me a quick note. I will send you a return email within one business day and then we will set a date and time to meet.

This initial conversation is 100% free of charge.

If we agree that ongoing support would be beneficial, we will discuss frequency, the coaching process and my fees. Discounts are available for six or more sessions of ongoing coaching that are paid in advance.
